The Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI) at the National University of Singapore is seeking a Research Assistant to join our team to conduct research on coral reef restoration. Applicants with a keen interest in scientific research and an inquisitive mind are welcome to apply. Ideal candidates should have research experience in marine biology and ecology in Southeast Asia.

You will work closely with a team of researchers and engage different stakeholders, including members of the public. Your ability to work and communicate effectively across multiple domains will be essential for this project.

Roles and responsibilities

Conduct environmental and ecological survey of marine habitats Monitor and maintain coral culture Data processing and quantitative ecological analysis using statistical techniques Interpretation of ecological data and production of high quality scientific reports Publish research in peer-reviewed journals Develop teaching resources to engage and educate the public in marine and environmental education Assist in the supervision of casual staff, interns and students Support housekeeping and laboratory maintenance Qualifications Qualifications and requirements

Possess a Bachelor of Science (Honours) or Master’s degree in Biology. Applicants with degrees in other disciplines may be considered if they have adequate and relevant work experience in marine biology and ecology. Possess or be in the process of completing a PADI Rescue Diver (or equivalent) scuba diving certification with at least 50 logged dives in the past two years. . Excellent oral and written communication skills Demonstrate good analytical, communication and interpersonal skills Meticulous, resourceful and innovative with a positive work attitude and responsive and adaptive to changes An independent worker but also a good team player Experience in the organization /attendance at public awareness events computer and statistical software such as SPSS and R Prior experience in field sampling and scientific writing would be an advantage
