Oceanariums are large-scale saltwater aquariums used to display marine species. Officials say the Visakhapatnam Oceanarium will span 10 acres and be a tunnel-like structure with 360 ° views of the ocean. Over 2,000 people will be able to see the oceanarium at a time.

In an attempt to promote tourism in Andhra Pradesh, the state government is considering establishing an oceanarium in the port city. A recent cabinet meeting discussed the same with ten other projects.

The oceanarium of the port city will house thousands of marine species from all over the world.

Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao said: “We have discussed many projects and will take action to prepare a detailed project report and identify land once the pandemic is under control. According to the Minister of Tourism, the project will be carried out under a public-private partnership (PPP) and will likely cost more than 300 crore rupees.

The minister said a number of tourism projects had not taken shape due to the pandemic. “The entire state administration is busy dealing with the pandemic. Our top priority is now public health. We will focus on the oceanarium and other projects once the conditions are under control, ”said Srinivasa Rao.

The proposal to develop an oceanarium at Visakhapatnam was first raised under the TDP regime. However, the project did not see the light of day. Now, as the government is planning a series of measures to develop the state’s tourism industry, the oceanarium proposal is once again in the foreground.
