New exhibit on ocean science and marine biology at Springfield Museums


SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A new exhibit on ocean science and marine biology hits museums in Springfield on Saturday, November 6.

Splash and Bubbles: dive in, lend a fin!, is a new early childhood STEM exhibit based on the popular PBS KIDS TV show, Splash and bubbles, “A successful animated series that encourages children to explore ocean science and marine biology through character-driven comedy.” This exhibit will introduce children to the world of ocean exploration, familiarization with different habitats and marine life, as well as a learning environment to teach young people the importance of conservation, ocean protection. and its ecosystems.

Museum opening hours:

  • Tuesday to Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“This is a spectacular exhibit,” said Larissa Murray, director of education at Springfield Museums. “We needed one of our larger exhibition areas to accommodate its size, and we chose SIS Hall at the Wood Museum of Springfield History. Plenty of room to play and jump right into STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) learning.

This new addition will feature many hands-on exhibits, ”Splash and Bubbles: dive in, lend a fin! invites children to discover a whole new world as they navigate an underwater maze in a kelp forest, explore a sunken ship that has become an artificial reef, interact with puppet characters created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, at become a Reeftown Ranger to learn how to protect the ocean, and more! “
