MSDE recognizes INS Shivaji as CoE in Marine Engineering

In an effort to motivate military organizations and recognize their efforts in skills and technology development, the Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has recognized INS Shivaji as a Center of Excellence ( CoE) in the field of Marine Engineering (ME) on March 22, 2022 Recognition was granted to INS Shivaji after a thorough review of the infrastructure and facilities available, as well as the training provided to improve the skills of the personnel Indian Navy, friendly foreign navies and the whole ecosystem. The certificate of recognition was presented by the Honorable MSDE Secretary, Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, IAS to CMDE Arvind Rawal, Commandant, INS Shivaji. The certification took place at the Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship, Shram Shakti Bhawan, New Delhi.

INS Shivaji is an Indian naval station in Lonavala, Maharashtra. It houses the Naval College of Engineering, which educates and trains Indian Navy and Coast Guard officials. The organization was commissioned as HMIS Shivaji on February 15, 1945. The INS Shivaji Center of Excellence (Marine Engineering) was established in 2014 with a broad mandate that included the induction of technologies for niche for naval applications, quality research in collaboration with R&D and university institutes. of high reputation. The broader objective here was to improve the skills of Indian Navy personnel, friendly foreign navies and the wider ecosystem.

The Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has designated a Center of Excellence (CoE) as a body that provides leadership, best practice, research, support, train-the-trainer and vocational training for one or more specific sectors. The Skills Ecosystem Center of Excellence is envisioned as a one-stop resource center established/working in partnership with industry to raise training standards, boost productivity, address emerging skills gaps and align training and research with industry needs.

MSDE’s designation of INS Shivaji as a Center of Excellence is the first of its kind for any military organization, and it reflects INS Shivaji’s ongoing commitment to skills and technology development. The award will strengthen INS Shivaji’s position as the preferred training institution for high-quality R&D collaborations with industry and prestigious academic institutions within and outside India.
