Business in Cornwall Solis Marine Engineering new Falmouth Headquarters


An international marine engineering company recently moved its headquarters to Cornwall, while expanding into Asia.

Solis Marine Engineering (SME) has moved to its new UK headquarters in Falmouth and established a new office in Singapore as part of its global expansion plans.

Solis Marine Engineering Pte Ltd is headed by Director Ros Blazejczyk, who has moved from the UK to Singapore to oversee operational growth in South East Asia.

In Singapore, SME will share offices with sister company Solis Marine Consultants, which has been operating in the region for almost ten years.

In the UK, SME has moved to new premises at the Tremough Innovation Center in Penryn, just outside Falmouth.

Founded in 2018, the company provides a range of engineering services to the offshore renewable energy, oil and gas, and shipping industries.

Projects that advance the zero carbon agenda and the marine renewable energy sector are central to MHE’s work, including the development of fully electric propulsion systems for domestic ferries and commercial work boats.

SME Founder and Managing Director Simon Hindley said: “Solis Marine Engineering has become a well established part of the maritime cluster in the UK and Europe, working with a diverse portfolio of customers who are at the forefront of transportation clean maritime and offshore renewable energy.

“Our move to a new head office in Cornwall welcomes a growing team of naval architects.

“The new Singapore office will support UK SMEs on existing marine engineering projects while seeking to provide similar services to local clients across South East Asia.

In the UK, SME is working with Pelagic Design to provide an optimized low-resistance design for Voyager Boatyard and Plymouth Boat Trips’ new Cremyll e-Ferry.

The company is also assisting WITT in the development of its innovative energy harvesting device thanks to its expertise in fluid dynamics, vortex-induced vibration (VIV) and wave mechanics.

And SME is working with RS Electric Boats to provide computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and design input for their new line of electric boats with RAD Propulsion hubless rim thrusters.
