A marine engineering company creates a green energy subsidiary
A specialist in marine engineering has created a new company to offer marine energy solutions that respect the environment.
Jebb Smith Ltd established Oasis Marine Power as a subsidiary to build on its expertise in marine mooring systems.
Oasis Marine Power will develop the Oasis Power Buoy, an electrically powered mooring buoy – initially intended for installation in offshore wind farms – as a first product.
The buoy harnesses its energy directly from wind turbines, providing a zero-emission energy source with a dual function of mooring and recharging at sea.
Hybrid and electric crew transfer vessels will replenish batteries in the field before returning to port, making them fuel-independent.
Testing is expected to begin in the spring, with a commercial launch slated for 2022.
Jebb Smith was successful in securing funding for his marine designs through the Maritime Research and Innovation UK program last year.
Company Director George Smith said, âOur vision for a greener future inspired the Oasis Power Buoy.
âIt is already attracting considerable interest from wind farm operators looking to operate in the cleanest possible way, which significantly increases their ability to do so. “
